Skukuza Main Gate in Kruger to close from 2 November for roof repairs
SANParks says the Skukuza Rest Camp Main Gate will be shut from 2 November to 4 December 2026 while its roof structure is repaired.
Visitors heading to Skukuza in the Kruger National Park will have to use a different entrance for just over a month. South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced that the Skukuza Rest Camp Main Gate will be closed temporarily so that its roof structure can be maintained and repaired, SAnews reported.
Dates of the closure
The gate will be out of use from Monday, 2 November 2026, until Friday, 4 December 2026. SANParks cautioned that these dates could shift if bad weather or other unexpected problems get in the way of the work.
The agency says the repairs form part of its continuing programme to look after infrastructure in the Kruger National Park, and are meant to keep facilities safe, working properly and in good condition over the long term.
Where to go instead
While the main gate is closed, a temporary camp entrance will be open on Hippo Circle Street. This is the road that runs towards the Skukuza Medical Doctor/Surgery. Motorists using the temporary entrance will pass by AM Spa and Skukuza Safari Lodge on their way into the camp.
SANParks asks visitors to look out for the directional signs and to listen to park staff, so that vehicles and people on foot can move around safely and without unnecessary delays. The organisation also apologised for the inconvenience and thanked visitors, tourism partners and staff for their patience and cooperation while the improvements are done.
What this means for visitors
Anyone with a booking at Skukuza, or planning a day trip that includes the camp, should keep a few points in mind:
- The main gate will be closed from 2 November to 4 December 2026.
- The temporary entrance on Hippo Circle Street should be used instead.
- Signs and staff instructions will guide drivers and pedestrians.
- The end date may change if weather or other circumstances disrupt the repairs.
Because the dates are not fixed, travellers may want to allow a little extra time when arriving at the camp. Those with questions about their specific booking should contact SANParks directly.
