Job Description
Purpose of the Role:
To support the implementation, monitoring, and compliance of environmental management practices in construction projects. The role ensures that all site activities adhere to environmental legislation, company policies, and project-specific environmental management plans (EMPs), while also assisting with basic Health & Safety (H&S) duties, to promote a safe and compliant work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Environmental Management:
• Assist in implementing the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) on site.
• Monitor site activities to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and project specifications.
• Conduct routine environmental inspections and audits (e.g., waste management, dust control, noise levels, spill prevention).
• Identify environmental risks and report non-conformances to the HSE Manager.
• Support the management of waste, including segregation, storage, and disposal in accordance with regulations.
• Assist in maintaining environmental records, registers, and reports.
• Participate in environmental incident investigations and compile basic reports.
• Promote environmental awareness among site workers through toolbox talks and informal training.
Health & Safety Support Duties:
• Assist the H&S team in conducting site inspections and audits.
• Support compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Help monitor the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings.
• Support hazard identification and risk assessment processes (HIRA).
• Ensure Environmental housekeeping standards are maintained on site.
Compliance & Administration:
• Ensure compliance with applicable environmental legislation and standards
• Maintain accurate documentation, including inspection checklists, permits, and incident logs.
• Assist with compiling weekly and monthly environmental reports.
• Liaise with contractors and subcontractors regarding environmental compliance.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
• Diploma or Degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, or related field.
• Basic Health & Safety certification (e.g., SAMTRAC or equivalent) will be advantageous.
Experience:
2 – 5 years’ experience in environmental management (construction industry exposure advantageous).
Skills & Competencies:
• Basic knowledge of environmental legislation and compliance requirements.
