Hunt Gives Stellenbosch Injury Update Before AmaZulu Clash

Stellenbosch coach Gavin Hunt says two players are back in training for the AmaZulu quarter-final, while Mosa Lebusa and Genino Palace will miss the match.

Stellenbosch FC coach Gavin Hunt has given an update on his squad ahead of Sunday evening’s Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final against AmaZulu at the Danie Craven Stadium, according to iDiski Times.

Hunt said his squad is beginning to come together and that he is pleased to see several players back on the training field.

Who is back, and who is not

Bafana Mthethwa and Lateef Kazeem are among those who have returned to training, and Hunt indicated that both are likely to be involved in the match. He was careful about how much to expect from them, however. “I don’t think they’re going to be ready to play,” he told the media on Friday, but he said they can come into the match-day squad and add depth.

Hunt said it may be too early for other players. Mosa Lebusa and Genino Palace have not played and will not be available this weekend, he confirmed.

  • Back in training: Bafana Mthethwa and Lateef Kazeem
  • Not available on Sunday: Mosa Lebusa and Genino Palace

Squad depth a concern

Hunt used the update to point to a wider problem. He said the club’s depth has hurt them since the start of the season, because they have been without many players for various reasons.

He contrasted this with AmaZulu, saying they have had their best XI available for most of the time, apart from one or two players. “We need to still get there,” Hunt said of his own squad’s depth.

Even so, he said the returns give the team “a little bit of hope” going into the tie.

What this means for fans

The quarter-final is on Sunday evening at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch. Supporters planning to attend or watch should confirm the kick-off time and broadcast details through the PSL’s official channels, as the source report does not give them.

Team news will become clearer once the match-day squads are named, which will show how many of the returning players Hunt includes.
