iFani asks fans to pick Eastern Cape’s next cypher rapper
iFani has asked the hip-hop community who should carry the Eastern Cape into the last two rounds of the EC vs KZN Cypher.
The EC vs KZN Cypher is nearly over, and rapper iFani wants Eastern Cape hip-hop fans to help choose who represents the province next. According to SA Hip Hop Mag, he has confirmed that the series is down to its final two rounds.
Round 19 is scheduled to be released on Thursday, with Round 20 following on Friday. Those two instalments will bring the provincial lyrical showdown to a close.
Who will step up for the Eastern Cape?
The Eastern Cape was earlier represented by noStix Makasana, who did not win his matchup. With that round done, iFani has turned to the public rather than choosing the next rapper himself.
In a social media post, he put the question to followers: “Who should we, as Eastern Cape, put here?” He floated three names: PDotO, Igqala and Dollxr, and invited other suggestions too.
SA Hip Hop Mag described what each name could bring:
- PDotO: an East London-born lyricist known for years of consistency and a strong catalogue, and an option for those who want established experience.
- Dollxr: a representative of the younger generation of Eastern Cape hip-hop, linked to the emerging Xhosa Wave movement.
- Igqala: also mentioned as a possible pick as the conversation continues.
How the cypher got here
The series began in early October. iFani rallied Eastern Cape talent to take on KwaZulu-Natal, which is led by Zakwe. Since then, voices from both provinces have featured, and the project has become a showcase of regional pride, lyrical skill and hip-hop identity.
With only two rounds left, the Eastern Cape’s next pick could shape how the province ends its campaign. The source did not say when iFani will announce his final choice, only that he wants people to speak up before the final decisions are made.
What this means for fans
Followers who want a say can respond to iFani’s social media post with their suggestions. Anyone planning to follow the finale should look out for Round 19 on Thursday and Round 20 on Friday.
