Ex-Global says Nasty C’s approach is what SA hip hop needs
Commentator Ex-Global has praised Nasty C's collaborative run of live sessions and releases as a model for how South African hip hop can grow.
Commentator Ex-Global has publicly backed Nasty C, describing the rapper’s recent activity as a template for the next stage of South African hip hop. SA Hip Hop Mag reported on the comments, which were posted on Thursday.
Ex-Global wrote that he believes Nasty C is doing “exactly what SA hip hop needs to reach the next level”. He added that artists should keep the culture going, link up more, work together more, try different genres and break through with new sounds.
The Speed Run sessions
The praise comes as Nasty C continues his Speed Run series. In these live streams, guests have only minutes to settle on bars, melodies and chemistry with the host. Recent sessions have featured Flvme, Tshego, Tellaman, Lucasraps and groups such as The North Mob.
Fans can watch the songs take shape in real time on YouTube and Twitch. According to the report, the format feels less like artists showing off on their own and more like a shared creative lab.
A year of collaboration
The same approach runs through Nasty C’s recent releases. His independent album FREE, put out in 2025 on his Tall Racks label, earned him a third SAMA for Best Hip Hop Album. Earlier in 2026 he followed it with T’s & C’s Apply, a joint project with Tellaman.
SA Hip Hop Mag noted that both records pair sharp lyricism with broader sonic experiments. The outlet says this shows an artist can stay competitive while still making room for others.
Ex-Global has long counted Nasty C among the most complete artists in the scene, according to the report. His latest post, however, reads more as a challenge to the wider community than as a celebration. The message is to keep the culture moving, collaborate more and stretch the sound. In his view, the next level will come when more artists treat the studio booth as a shared space rather than private property.
What this means for fans
For listeners, the practical takeaway is easy access. The Speed Run sessions are streamed on YouTube and Twitch, so anyone can watch new collaborations being built. Both FREE and T’s & C’s Apply are available as full projects for those who want to hear the sound Ex-Global is pointing to.
