Young Stunna reveals great-grandmother behind album Busisiwe
Amapiano singer Young Stunna has explained that his sophomore album Busisiwe is named after the late great-grandmother who raised him in Daveyton.
Amapiano singer Young Stunna has explained who the title of his sophomore album, Busisiwe, honours: his late great-grandmother, who brought him up in Daveyton. Briefly News reported that the album was released on 21 October 2026, and that the artist told the story behind the name in a Facebook post.
A childhood shaped by the women in his family
According to Briefly News, Young Stunna said his great-grandmother and his grandmothers were the ones who raised him. He described that upbringing as full of love, guidance and care. The family called his great-grandmother “Mama”. He remembered her as the person who kept the whole household cared for and fed, from the day a child arrived until that child was able to cope alone.
He also said she stood firmly behind his music career, even when other relatives had doubts. She gave him money to travel to his gigs and stayed awake until he got home safely. “She never once made me feel like I should quit music,” Young Stunna wrote.
Where his love of music and fashion began
The singer said Busisiwe sang in a church choir that regularly finished in first place. Church services were held inside the family home, and he credits those Sunday gatherings with first drawing him to music. The songs, he said, brought him comfort.
His eye for clothes also started with her. As a young boy he would borrow her shirts and wear them with chinos. He says this early experimenting is the reason he has never needed a stylist. “So much of what I am creatively started at home, with her,” he wrote.
An album dedicated to Mama
Young Stunna ended his post by dedicating the album to her directly. “Mama, this album is yours,” he wrote. He added that he believes she is “breaking a leg wherever you are”, and he closed by expressing his love for her and wishing her continued rest.
Briefly News said fans responded warmly to the tribute, with several commenters sending their blessings and praising the way his great-grandmother raised him.
The album’s name now carries a personal meaning for listeners. Busisiwe is available as Young Stunna’s second full-length project, and by his own account it is a tribute to the woman who first encouraged him to pursue music.
