Ouaddou wants Moremi back in Bafana squad after Pirates brace

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou says Tshepang Moremi is a major player for South Africa and hopes he is back in the national team soon.

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has praised Tshepang Moremi after the 26-year-old scored twice in a 3-0 win over Milford FC in the last 16 of the Carling Knockout Cup, according to iDiski Times.

The match was played in Orlando on Tuesday. Moremi also set up a goal, helping the defending champions stay on course to retain the league cup title. His two goals took his tally to seven in all competitions this season.

Frustration over Bafana minutes

Ouaddou said he was happy for his player, but he also revealed that he was frustrated by what happened during last month’s 2027 AFCON qualifiers against Guinea and Eritrea. Moremi did not feature in either match. He did, however, play in the international friendly against Egypt.

The coach believes Moremi is instrumental and can help both the national team and Pirates in big games. “Well done for him,” Ouaddou said.

He said the thing he likes most about Moremi is that he cannot be faulted for effort in any match, pointing to his fighting spirit and his running. Ouaddou added that he hopes the player returns to the national team quickly, calling him “a major player for South Africa”.

Ouaddou said he was a bit frustrated that Moremi joined the national team last time and received no game time at all.

What comes next

The coach wants Moremi to keep working hard and, he hopes, to represent his country again. First of all, he said, he wants the player to keep scoring for Pirates because the club needs him for its big games. He described the next one as “very important”, although he did not name the match in the comments reported.

For supporters, the main thing to watch is whether Moremi’s club form earns him a place when the next Bafana Bafana squad is named. No call-up has been announced, and Ouaddou’s comments are a hope rather than a selection decision.
