Chippa United DDC coach Dan Malesela leaves after poor start

Chippa United's reserve side is without a coach after Dan Malesela's exit, with the team 15th on three points and a Milford FC clash coming up.

Chippa United’s reserve team is looking for a new coach after Dan Malesela left his post, according to iDiski Times. The publication reported that the decision followed a disappointing start to the DStv Diski Challenge season.

iDiski Times learnt that the Chilli Boys ended their relationship with Malesela, who is popularly known as “Dan Dance”. The youngsters currently sit 15th on the log, with three points from their first five matches.

A bright opening that faded

The campaign started well, with a surprise 2-1 win over Stellenbosch FC. After that, however, the side lost four matches in a row. Those defeats came at the hands of Siwelele FC, Golden Arrows, Sekhukhune United and Mamelodi Sundowns, and the team conceded 19 goals across the four games.

How Malesela came to the job

Malesela’s role at the club grew out of Chippa’s takeover of the Africa School of Excellence in early August. At that point he was named head of development. He was then given charge of the DDC team as head coach for the current season.

His time in that position has therefore been short, covering only the first five league matches of the campaign.

What happens next

Chippa have yet to say who will lead the team in the next game, against Milford FC at UJ Stadium. According to iDiski Times, it remains to be seen who will take over for that fixture.

For supporters who follow the club’s development side, the main things to watch are:

  • who is appointed to take charge of the team, whether permanently or for the short term;
  • whether the side can pick up points against Milford FC at UJ Stadium;
  • whether the results improve after the four straight defeats.

The report did not say whether the club has made an official statement on the matter, so readers should look out for confirmation from Chippa United themselves.
