Uncle Waffles, Mia le Roux and Limpopo Boy make headlines this week

A DJ in Las Vegas, a newlywed former Miss South Africa and a dancer in Zurich put local talent in the spotlight this week.

South African entertainers had a busy week, with a DJ booked for a Las Vegas party, a former beauty queen sharing her wedding and a dancer taking on the world in Switzerland. IOL rounded up the week’s celebrity news, and these are the local highlights.

Uncle Waffles books a Las Vegas stage

Amapiano DJ Uncle Waffles was named as a guest act at Megan Thee Stallion’s yearly Hottieween party. According to IOL, the event was set for Friday 30 October at Zouk Nightclub in Las Vegas. This year’s theme is inspired by the circus, with Megan teaming up with Cirque du Soleil.

The DJ, whose given name is Lungelihle Zwane, reacted to the news online and said she and Megan would be taking over the city. IOL notes that the booking follows her Coachella set and her presence at big fashion and entertainment events.

Mia le Roux shares her wedding video

Former Miss South Africa Mia le Roux has released a video of her wedding to Luke ten Oever. The couple married on 16 October at La Paris Estate in Franschhoek. She wore an ivory gown by South African designer Anel Botha for the ceremony and changed into another outfit for the reception.

In her vows, Le Roux thanked her husband for recognising her worth and for reminding her that she is enough. In 2024 she became the first deaf woman to win the Miss South Africa crown.

Limpopo Boy reaches the Red Bull top 16

Dancer Matome Robert Thoka, known as Limpopo Boy, represented South Africa at the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final in Zurich. He made it into the top 16 but lost his battle to Willis, a 16-year-old from France, who went on to take the title.

Thoka described the appearance as a major moment in his life. His Survivor style draws on personal hardship and overcoming it, and he uses it to honour resilience and South African culture.

Other entertainment news

  • Actor Noah Wyle, 55, was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2026. He stars in The Pitt and said he first suspected the announcement was a prank.
  • The NFL confirmed that Jay-Z will take the stage at the Super Bowl LXI halftime show in 2027. His company, Roc Nation, has produced the show since 2020, but this will be his first time performing in it.

What to look out for

Uncle Waffles’ Las Vegas date fell on 30 October, so fans can expect clips and updates from her on social media. Jay-Z’s halftime slot is part of the 2027 Super Bowl, so there is still plenty of time before it happens.
