PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The purpose of this role is to ensure that the arc furnace slag is produced with minimal losses of precious metals to maximise first pass efficiency.
SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Ensure that the slag area is always ready when required.
- Ensure that all by-products generated are weighed and sent for sampling for metal balance purposes.
- Provide innovative suggestions to improve safe work practices.
- Ensure that there is full compliance with the SHEQ procedures for people, equipment and product.
- Collect and organise feed material for the BBOC units.
- Ensure that all faults are reported to the senior operator or foreman timeously.
- Ensure good housekeeping.
- Operate machinery effectively to avoid any incidences.
- Ensure that machines are working properly and safely.
- Complete daily reports and submit to supervisor.
- Incumbent will be required to assist with Arc furnace lead tapping, blending and crushing activities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Completed Matric qualification.
- A National Diploma in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering will be advantageous.
- Minimum of 1 – 3 years of working experience in Smelting operations.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
- Computer proficiency– MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and SAP.
- Good communication skills.
- Troubleshoot by referring to procedures.
- Operate equipment and be able to complete the checklists accurately.
- Ability to identify and solve problems.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Understanding of production processes with fault detection abilities.
- Understand and apply relevant SHEQ practices and procedures including knowledge on radiation.
- Good understanding of equipment at the Arc and BBOC plants.
