We are looking for a commercially astute and highly driven Procurement Specialist to join our Bryanston-based team. This is a high-ownership role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced FMCG environment, takes initiative naturally, and has the confidence to engage effectively across suppliers, factories, and senior leadership teams.

The successful candidate will play a key role in driving procurement optimisation, supplier performance, process improvement, and cost-saving initiatives across the business. 

Reporting Structure:

  • Reports to: Head of Procurement
  • Direct Reports: None 

Key Areas of Impact:

Procurement Optimisation & Supplier Management

  • Drive procurement initiatives focused on raw material spend optimisation, operational efficiencies, and sustainable cost savings
  • Conduct detailed procurement analysis and present commercially sound recommendations and actionable insights
  • Identify, track and report on cost-saving and cost-avoidance opportunities
  • Lead supplier engagement and SLA negotiations with key vendors
  • Build strong supplier relationships and maintain high levels of supplier engagement to proactively identify risks, challenges, and opportunities
  • Apply technical and commercial insights to support procurement best practices and supplier performance improvements
  • Conduct regular procurement audits to ensure compliance and governance standards are maintained 

Process Ownership & Strategic Execution

  • Take ownership of procurement processes across the National Brands supply chain
  • Develop forward-thinking procurement strategies and gain alignment from senior stakeholders
  • Independently manage daily tactical procurement decisions in line with the agreed business strategy
  • Proactively identify operational risks, anticipate potential supply chain challenges, and implement corrective actions before issues escalate
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and engagement across multiple business functions and levels
  • Resolve procurement-related queries and provide commercially sound guidance to stakeholders

Standardisation & Continuous Improvement

  • Investigate current procurement practices across sites and identify opportunities for standardisation and best practice implementation
  • Lead process improvement initiatives and support change management activities across the supply chain
  • Develop process maps, identify inefficiencies, and implement course corrections where required
  • Drive implementation alignment across sites and monitor adherence to improved procurement standards
  • Prepare presentations and communicate recommendations clearly and confidently to senior stakeholders 

Project Coordination

  • Coordinate multiple complex procurement and supply chain projects simultaneously
  • Ensure projects are implemented effectively and aligned to operational best practices
  • Support stakeholder training and drive understanding of project benefits and operational impact
  • Understand interdependencies across projects and proactively manage risks and implementation roadblocks
  • Track outcomes and ensure continuous follow-through on agreed deliverables 

Supply Chain Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Compile, analyse and communicate procurement and supply chain reports on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis
  • Conduct ad hoc analysis to support procurement decisions and process improvements
  • Interpret data trends and provide insights that support strategic decision-making
  • Develop business cases, track implementation outcomes, and recommend corrective actions where required
  • Support reporting quality and analytical capability within the broader procurement team 

What It Takes to Succeed:

Experience that set you up for success:                       

  • Minimum 5 – 7 years’ experience within a Procurement Specialist role in a fast-paced manufacturing or FMCG environment
  • Proven experience managing supplier relationships, commercial negotiations, and procurement optimisation initiatives
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance operational requirements and cost management
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership, and drive initiatives proactively
  • Ability to engage confidently with senior leadership and communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally
  • Strong analytical capability with experience in interpreting procurement and supply chain data
  • Experience coordinating multiple projects and managing competing priorities effectively 

Qualifications & Certifications that will contribute to your success:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement, Engineering, Supply Chain, Commerce, or a related field is essential
    A dual-major qualification combining technical and commercial disciplines would be advantageous
  • Additional qualifications in Procurement, Supply Chain, or Project Management will be advantageous 

Additional Requirements that will enhance your impact for success:

  • Knowledge of the Ingredient Industry would be advantageous
  • Broad understanding of International Logistics and Incoterms
  • Advanced MS Office skills, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
  • SAP experience is essential
  • Spend system management and reporting experience
  • Strong project management capability
  • Solid understanding of procurement governance, compliance, and ethics
  • Willingness to travel within South Africa as required
